Wave Pools of the World: Every Surfable Pool Now in Operation
A verified, searchable guide to every commercial wave pool currently open for surfing — location, wave technology, difficulty levels, and where to book a session.

Intro
Not everyone lives near a coast, and not every coast has waves worth chasing. Over the last decade, a small industry has grown up around solving that with machines: pools that generate rider-controllable, repeatable waves on demand, from foam-covered beginner rollers to full barrels. The technology behind them varies wildly — a hydrofoil pulled down a rail, a bank of pneumatic caissons, cable-drawn floats — but the promise is the same: a wave, on a schedule, regardless of swell or tide.
This article lists every commercial wave pool we could verify is currently open and taking surfers, with the technology it runs, the range of difficulty on offer, and a link to the operator's own booking or pricing page rather than numbers that go stale. It does not include parks that are announced, under construction, or closed — several of the biggest names in the industry (Wavegarden alone has six more facilities in the pipeline) aren't on this list yet for exactly that reason. Costs vary heavily by session length, membership tier, and season, so we've deliberately left prices out of the article itself — the booking link on each entry has the current numbers.

A note on the technology
A handful of companies build almost everything on this list:
- Wavegarden Cove — the current generation from the Basque company that pioneered the modern surf-park boom; a rectangular lagoon with a moving pier-mounted system that produces two waves per cycle, one breaking each direction. It dominates this list because it's the most-licensed, most-replicated technology in the industry.
- American Wave Machines' PerfectSwell — pneumatic wave generators along one edge of a pool, giving operators a lot of control over swell direction and size per session.
- Kelly Slater Wave Co. — the original Surf Ranch technology: a hydrofoil towed down a rail through a long freshwater lagoon, producing what's widely regarded as the single best man-made wave in the sport, at the cost of far more limited public access than the others here.
- Endless Surf (WhiteWater West) and Surf Loch — newer entrants, each running their own pneumatic or mechanical systems, represented here by Munich and Palm Springs respectively.
Sources & methodology
This list draws on each operator's own website, plus coverage from Wave Pool Mag, The Inertia, Surf Park Guide, and Wavegarden's own project pages — cross-checked against at least one independent source per entry where possible. Technology is marked as unconfirmed rather than guessed where an operator doesn't publish it. The wave-pool industry moves fast: parks open, close, and change hands regularly, so treat this as a snapshot as of late September 2026 rather than a permanent record — if you spot something that's changed, that's useful to know.
